I’ve been holding out on you guys. Only for a few weeks, but still…I’m sorry.

It all started at the beginning of January when healthy smoothies were popping up all over the blogosphere. Some looked tasty, but I quickly bypassed them because I struggle with smoothies. It’s love hate really. I love them so much. I love the flavor, the nutrients, the fruit, the ease of making them. But I also hate them. I hate them because I’m hungry soon after and well, because I have to clean the blender but mainly because I’m always hungry shortly after drinking them.

So, I bypassed all of the beautiful, creamy, delicious looking smoothies I kept seeing and incorrectly lumped them all into the same category. And, here’s the thing. I was wrong about smoothies. They aren’t all the same and they don’t all deserve the cold shoulder.

While some smoothies are loaded with sugar and are milkshakes masquerading as healthy breakfasts, some smoothies really deserve attention and that’s where this one comes in. Just in time for round two of the polar vortex. You’re welcome in advance.

I first made this smoothie a few weeks ago and was wowed. Not only was it packed with healthy ingredients, but it was also packed with roughly 15 grams of protein and left me feeling full until noon! NOON! You guys, that never happens. Not even when I eat breakfast at ten. After trying and perfecting the smoothie a few more times, the full feeling wasn’t a fluke. This protein packed smoothie will leave you feeling full for hours.

Even if you don’t think smoothies could possibly be a great breakfast, I urge you to give this a try. Packed with nonfat greek yogurt, skim milk, a frozen banana, and almond butter, this smoothie will convert everyone. Plus, it’s full of flavor.

This recipe makes two 16 oz smoothies, which works perfectly in our house. Feel free to adjust the recipe based on the number of people in your household.

You’ll want to add the ingredients in this order. Add the ice cubes and frozen banana.
